I never thought I'd be annoyed to have lost weight, but I am. On one hand I am thrilled to have lost weight and inches, but it is f-ing up my fitting. And that is annoying. I'm in the middle of sewing McCalls 5590, a way out of print high waisted skirt.
This is actually the first pattern I tried sewing about two years ago. I bought some what I now know is quilting cotton from Walmart and attempted to teach myself to sew. It didn't really go well. That UFO now sits on my ironing board waiting for me to either fix the mess I made out of it, or repo the zipper and materials.
Back to the present. I really like the pattern (hello, only four pieces!) so I thought I'd try my hand at it again. Three weeks ago when I first started, my hip and waist measurement both fell within the size 18 range. The waist gaped at the top and I wasn't sure how to remedy this. Do I widen the darts? Do I add more darts? Do I try and grade from an 18 at the hips to a 16 at the waist? That was three weeks ago. Now I've lost half an inch from my hips and an inch and a half from my waist. Yay, but now the waist gapes more. Ugh. Annoying. I am still not sure how to fix it. The final product will be made out a stretch cotton sateen so I know that will be a factor as well. This one, to be exact.
School is out for the next two weeks, so I'll have lots of time to sew. My plan is to finish this skirt tomorrow or the next day so I can start catching up with the Crepe sewalong. Procrastination is my middle name. :) Wish me luck...actually, wish me some discipline to sit down and finish my damn skirt. That might be a better idea. I'll be back soon with either the finished product or a post on some fashion inspiration. :) Aloha all.!
P.S. K.Line & Dissolved Girl- Thanks for the comments on the last post. I heart you guys. :)
